If so, please contact me at KLPCreations@aol.com & perhaps I can help answer some of your questions. Tell me more about your tabby & how it helps with issues due to your disabilities? Yes, he CAN be trained as a service animal, especially if you already see him helping you in important ways. I trained my own service animal because I couldn't afford to buy one already trained. There are certain things you'll need to get your cat used to, like going to the bathroom on command outside (NEVER INDOORS UNLESS IN A LITTERBOX), walking like a dog on a harness & leash, including responding correctly to most of the common dog commands, & so on. Does your cat do alerting, guide work, hearing work, picking up things you aren't able to, rescue work (gets help when you're in trouble), etc? These are also great things to teach ... multi talented service animals are easier to get onto certified paperwork. Being able to open doors for you is a great start! I have a certified service animal that happens to be half Turkish Van & half Norwegian Forest Cat. His name is Kimo. If you would like to see photos of him & I, see my blog site at the address below & scroll through the pages until you get to the service animal section. http://community.writersmarket.com/Kelly1971 I look forward to hearing from you. Keep finding & making reasons to smile. Sincerely, Kelly L. P. Laura Kwiatkowski says: November 14th, 2008 at 4:24 pm I already have a cat he is a Tabby 3 years old. I would like to know if there is any way I can train him to be a service animal? I live in an apartment suitable for wheelchairs owned under HUD. I have epilepsy and cerebral palsy. Scooter already knows how to open the door as he is able to jump and pull on the level of the door, he is just not trained to do the tasks that other service animals can do. Please let me know if there’s anything you can do? I reside in Las Vegas Nevada
